Description
The original, "Our Creditials Steadfast & Loyal", was presented to Army Major General Jeffery Hammond on behalf of 2BCT 4ID and commissioned by Henry A. Kievenaar III, Commanding. Seventy-five individual giclee prints, signed by the artist have been produced as a limited edition. The signed, limited-edition prints are only available through the artist.
The intent of this piece is to celebrate the achievements of the 4th Infantry Division, 2nd Brigade and its' six supporting battalions; 2 STB, 2/8 INF, 3/6 FAR, 1/10 CAV, 1/67 AR, and 204 BSB.
Soldiers are our credentials- is the creed of Army Major General Jeffery Hammond, who served as commanding general of Multi-National Division - Baghdad and the 4th Infantry Division. Hammond states, I believe that the basic fundamental right of every citizen is to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and I believe that the conditions to do that rests on the shoulders of our nations defense, on the ability of the United States Army, on the ability of this division ... At the end of the day the bottom line is, if all else fails, you can always rely on duty, honor, country. I find that in one person and one place and that is the American Soldier, the credential, the Nations Credential.
Taken from the motto of the Army's 8th Infantry Division, the Creed came from the reply of assistant division commander Brigadier General Charles Canham, during World War II, to a German general who refused to surrender until he saw the American general?s credentials. Turning to the two GIs who had accompanied him, Gen. Canham said, These are my credentials.
I began the original concept sketches at Fort Carson, The Mountain Post, in May 2009 and the final piece was completed in June 2009.
I truly hope that this work may serve as a gift of gratitude, proud memoir, and patriotic reminder of the sacrifices that Soldiers and their families make each day so that freedom remains free. Steadfast & Loyal.
